Those exposed to the greatest risk by the coronavirus are the ones who need Polish solidarity the most, PM Mateusz Morawiecki wrote in a recent post. As the protection of the elderly is paramount, the government will introduce new measures, he added.
“We, Poles, are a team. In times full of challenges and threats, we come together,” Mr Morawiecki wrote on social media.
The prime minister said senior citizens aged over 60 were most at risk by the novel coronavirus disease, underlying the importance of adhering to the rules and guidelines set by the government. “Cooperation can save lives,” he added.
Mateusz Morawieck also emphasized that, in the spirit of intergenerational solidarity, a separate time zone would be maintained for the elderly in stores and pharmacies from 15 October, adding that health authorities will pay special attention to the supervision of nursing homes and that the government has earmarked €8.5 million to support care for the elderly.
The premier also mentioned that the country was doing well in the field of intensive patient care, adding that citizens also needed support. “It’s up to us whether we can curb and slow down the growth of infections in the coming days, or allow the epidemic to spread,” Morawiecki stressed.
