France was recently shocked by the murder of 12-year-old Lola, who was sexually abused and killed by an Algerian migrant. Many outraged politicians have reacted, including Marine Le Pen’s niece and vice-president of the right-wing Reconquista party, Marion Maréchal, who believes that the French political class wants to “sweep this horrific crime under the carpet”.

Speaking to BFMTV, Ms. Maréchal stressed that the authorities were trying to divert attention from their misguided migrant policy. According to her, the French political class, notwithstanding the many murders committed by migrants in France, is trying to prevent this issue from being discussed in the general public debate. They are clearly not succeeding very well, since after Lola’s murder, rallies were organised in her memory and against mass migration, and her photograph has flooded the social networks.

“I think we are all collectively responsible for Lola’s death. It is not an accidental act or an isolated case. It is a social phenomenon that threatens us all. I’ll be blunt; how much blood will have to be shed before we can talk about it?…Lola is not an isolated case”, said Marion Maréchal. “It is the latest tragedy in a long line of cases of this kind”, she continued; “We remember the 86 people who died on a promenade in Nice on 14 July, the three people who were murdered in a cathedral in the same city, the rape of a woman by three Sudanese men and the rape of a 69-year-old woman by Algerians”.

Maréchal said that not only is the French political class, specifically Minister of Interior Gérald Darmanin and Minister of Justice Éric Dupont-Moretti, being insincere about the death of Lola, but they also refuse to take any responsibility for their role in her death.
Maréchalova is convinced that France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and French Justice Minister Éric Dupont-Moretti in particular are insincere about Lola’s death and refuse to take responsibility.

“I think we on both the right and the left are horrified by what has happened. I myself am the mother of a young girl and I cannot even dare to imagine the suffering of her parents. However, I do not think that certain outrages and accusations are sincere, but rather a strategy, if I may say so, of political terrorism, with the aim of avoiding naming the persons responsible, the causes and the reasons for which Lola lost her life, and assigning blame for this heinous crime. I also think that those who want to avoid responsibility, in particular, the French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, and the French Minister of Justice, Éric Dupont-Moretti, want to prevent this from being talked about. I am making it clear to everyone that I will not bow down to such intellectual terrorism and I will join with others in asking questions and demanding that something be done and that accountability be established,” she added.

Her aunt, Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Assembly, also blames the government for its migrant policy, which led to Lola’s murder.
