Macron’s ultimatum: Muslim Council leaders have two weeks to agree to ‘Republican Values Charter’

As a part of his government’s crackdown on political Islam, French President Emmanuel Macron has put the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) on notice, giving them two weeks to agree to a “Republican values charter”.

Macron, alongside Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, met with the head of the French Council for Islamic Worship, the rector of the Paris Mosque, and the representatives of the French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) at the Élysée last week, calling on those present to accept the “charter of Republican values” within 15 days.

“Two principles will be inscribed in black and white: the rejection of political Islam and any foreign interference,” the French newspaper Le Parisien reports.

“There will be those who sign and those who will not sign. We’ll learn from it. Either you are with the Republic or you are not with the Republic,” President Macron told leaders from CFCM.
