Protesters who gathered in Washington Square Park in lower Manhattan even clashed with hundreds of police and a group of helicopters, RT reports.
Part of the march broke away from the group and in the park dozens of police officers on bicycles tried to control the arrests of protesters, when far-leftists went wild and tried to control them. As the atmosphere became more heated, however, physical clashes erupted between protesters and representatives of the hand of justice. Militant left-wing protesters, who were dresses in dark clothes and have become famous in other recent violent riots, were particularly violently. Hooligans also started some small fires around the city, which police tried to put out.
The New York City Police Department addressed the protesters in its tweet, pointing out that it supports everyone’s right to free expression, but arson is not allowed as it endangers others and will therefore not be tolerated. In addition, the message states that the police are working to calm the situation. At the same time, the administration said that more than 20 people were arrested during the protests, and individuals were described as those who wanted to kidnap a peaceful protest by setting fires and scattering garbage and eggs around Manhattan. Police also shared photos of weapons seized during the violent demonstrations, including several blades, pyrotechnics and even an electric stun gun.
