On 10.3.2022, the Hungarian parliament elected Katalin Novák as the new Hungarian head of state with a two-thirds majority (ex-Fidesz vice-president and ex-family minister). In the secret ballot, it received 137 votes, 51 votes went to the opposition candidate, Péter Róna, an economist (5 votes were invalid). Novak, who studied economics, will replace the current president, János Áder, on 10 May.
Peace, Family, God
Katalin Novák condemned the Russian-induced war in neighboring Ukraine as a “destructive virus” where “we were just beginning to recover from the epidemic,” stressing the equality of all affected people, hungarians in Carpathian Ukraine, the motherland and the refugees. She emphasized the longing of Hungarians for peace.
At the same time, she made a commitment to her lifelong marriage bond with her husband, who as a “first gentleman will also remain what he is right now: Veres István”. She described the birth of her three children as one of her most important life decisions.
Her political thanks went to former Foreign Minister János Martonyi, who had taught her the “art of classical diplomacy”. Zoltán Balog, the former Minister of Human Resources, had taught her that man was God’s most important resource. She thanked Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for being able to be “part of the process of nation-building.”
Katalin Novák emphasized that she wanted to “show the really beautiful face of her country Hungary in the next five years through her life, her work, her appearance and her actions”.
She promised to be a president for all Hungarians – trusting in God’s help: “To do this, I will not take the cross from my neck, but press it to my heart.”
International independence, homeland Hungary
She also promised to visit towns and villages, settlements of the Hungarian Roma minority – as well as Hungarians living across the border. Her first state visit will take her to Warsaw. She committed herself to international independence between West and East – and to the identity with her homeland Hungary: “Hungary will never be Switzerland. For us, Lake Balaton is our Riviera, Mount Kékes is Hungary’s top, Hungarian is our secret language, the composers Bartók and Kodály are our musical brand, our neighbors are given. We belong to Europe, and Europe belongs to us and we don’t want to change that.”

The native of the southern Hungarian city of Szeged emphasized…: Without her grandparents, she would not be who she is right now. From her parents, she learned values such as honor, integrity and the ability to stand on both feet. – These skills would have strengthened her parents with a lot of knowledge. Their commitment is to human freedom: “As long as we have free will, we cannot be subjugated. The cradle of sovereignty is the family. I will never give that up.”
Reaction of the left-right bloc opposition: hatred and revision of the constitution
While the newly elected candidate made a vow to be president for all Hungarians and the defeated opponent congratulated her on her election, the various candidates of the left-right bloc bloc opposition outbid each other in hypocritical hate speeches: by slandering “Katalin Novák as a candidate of the corrupt, Putin-friendly Orbán power” and insinuating that “she would never be president of all Hungarians”. This peak of hypocrisy was afforded by the left-wing opposition party “Democratic Coalition” – probably forgetting that its own chairman, the lying Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany himself is one of the richest Hungarian oligarchs (and in 2006 had the biggest mass unrest since the revolution of 1956 beaten down with the most brutal police state methods by his vulgar confession of lies that he had lied to the voters at the time). – The left-liberal-green Hungarian MEP, Anna Donath, even called for a constitutional amendment, namely the direct election of the president by the people, no longer by the parliament… (Index, HungaryToday, 24hu) Probably forgetting that only recently, for example, the German parliament had made its president through the parliamentarians, the socialist Steinmeier.
