Switzerland: Police conduct large-scale anti-terror raids

Swiss police carried out large-scale anti-terror raids across three regions on Tuesday. During the raids, the homes of 11 people with suspected links to radical Islamic terrorist organizations were searched.

Close to 100 officers took part in the sweeps that were conducted in the cantons of Zurich, Vern, and Schaffhausen, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) announced.

Those who were targeted in the raids are believed to have breached the law which prohibits participation in a criminal group – in this instance, ISIS or Al-Qaeda.

The OAG has reported that six of the individuals whose homes were raided are adults, while the remaining five are youths. One of the adults is a returned Islamist fighter who has previously been tried by a Swiss court for his suspected links to ISIS, the OAG said.

Another man is currently being held in police custody until a court can determine whether or not to put him in pre-trial detention.
