Senior MEP Guy Verhofstadt in a recent Twitter post echoed Macron’s call for a European Army, suggesting even that existing defence forces across Europe should be integrated into a singular EU army, reports Voice of Europe.
Mr Macron recently suggested that an EU army would be necessary to counter Russia and China, even saying that the United States under its current leadership could not be trusted.
