The US pharmaceutical company Novavax has signed a contract for the production of its coronavirus vaccine in Poland with the Polish Mabion company. The technology will be transferred and the production may begin in the second quarter of this year.

The state-owned investment company PFR is providing support to Polish biotechnology firm Mabion in producing the anti-coronavirus vaccine of US pharmaceutical manufacturer Novavax in Poland, according to the wPolityce news site.

Mabion announced on Wednesday that it signed an agreement with Novavax to manufacture antigen for the Covid-19 vaccine, using Novavax’s transferred technology. PFR will contribute to the investment with approx. €9 million (40 million zlotys).

Novavax’s vaccine is yet to be approved by the European Medicines Agency.

The transfer of technology is expected to take place in the second quarter of 2021, PFR chief Pawel Borys has said.

“Poland will join the group of countries where Covid-19 vaccine is manufactured,” he announced on social media.
