British variant wreaks havoc in Poland

By V4 Agency

“We can see that this mutation is extremely aggressive and has already supplanted the classic coronavirus,” Poland’s deputy health minister has said, with regard to the British strain of the virus being linked to 80 per cent of the new infections across the country, on average.

The tendency will continue, we will have more and more new cases, Poland’s deputy health minister said on Sunday. Waldemar Kraska highlighted the fact that the mutant British variant of the coronavirus is spreading particularly rapidly across the entire country, and currently accounts for nearly 80 per cent of new infections. In some voivodships 90 per cent of new cases are caused by the UK variant.

He stressed that the next week will be critical for Poland, not only because of the number of new cases, but also because there’s a growing number of people who require hospitalisation.

The number of patients in serious condition has tripled, indicating that the course of the disease is now even more severe than during the previous wave, he added.
