Biden to sing from Soros’s hymn sheet

If Joe Biden officially becomes the next president of the United States, there is someone who will certainly benefit, and that is George Soros. In his first 100 days in office, the Democratic politician is planning to take steps in matters close to the stock exchange speculator’s heart.

Climate change

The issue of climate change has surfaced on numerous occasions during Joe Biden’s election campaign. Among other things, he spoke about eliminating shale gas extraction by fracking (the technique used to recover shale gas) and also attacked oil and coal industries.

During his first 100 days in office, Biden would re-enter the 2015 Paris climate accord after Donald Trump has pulled the US out of the agreement.

Climate change is close to George Soros’s heart, even if the issue is rather hypocritical. He announced this year that he is planning to invest 1 billion dollars to set up a global university network with the goal of promoting the fight against authoritarian governments and climate change. Doing a search for the words “climate change” on the website of Open Society Foundations will bring up 11 grants between 2016 and 2018.

However, Soros had previously bought shares in several coal companies. In 2015, Soros Fund Management obtained nearly 2.5 million dollars’ worth of shares from two coal companies. In 2014, he invested 234.4 million dollars in a coal and gas company called Consol. Incidentally, the energy industry is not unchartered territory for Soros, who was also active in Ukraine’s energy sector.

Immigration

Donald Trump sharply criticised illegal immigration during his presidency. Biden would not only provide a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal migrants, but he would also rescind several measures introduced by Trump, including a ban on travellers from certain Muslim countries and family separation at the US-Mexico border. Interesting enough, this procedure was already in place during the Obama administration, when immigrants were fenced in or held in “cages.”

The stock market speculator finances pro-immigration organisations across the whole world. When migrant caravans set off for the United States in South America in 2018, Trump noted that “a lot of people” said Soros was behind the phenomenon.

United We Dream, and organisation funded by Soros, has campaigned this year to ensure that illegal immigrants also receive 1,200 dollars on cheques sent out due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to US authorities there are about 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants in the country.

Soros also supports organisations involved in preventing deportations. One such group is called Organized Communities Against Deportation, which boasts on its official website that OSF is one of its partners.

Judicial reforms

Biden would also reshape the US police force and introduce judicial reforms to reduce the use of mandatory minimum penalties for nonviolent crimes. The former vice president did stress during his campaign that it was “absolutely” an option to “redirect some [police] funding.”

These causes have long been in the focus of Soros’s attention. In 2016, an opinion piece titled Let’s Reduce, Not Reform, Policing in America was published on the OSF website. Mariame Kaba, who had previously received a Soros scholarship, wrote in The New York Times that the surest way of reducing police violence was to reduce the power of the police, by cutting budgets and the number of officers.

Kamala Harris, Biden’s expected vice president, is also a competent authority when it comes to perpetrators of violent crimes. Ms Harris, whose campaign four years ago was backed by Soros Fund Management to the tune of 5,400 dollars, has urged people to support an organisation that helps violent criminals.
