Six pitches in a Berlin sports complex will be named after victims of racist and extremist violence. One will bear the name of George Floyd.

The decision to name the football fields of the Berlin-Moabit Stadium was made by the Berlin-Mitte district assembly at the request of the left-wing political faction, who took up the initiative of the Berliner AK 07 sports club.

As is known, George Floyd died during police arrest in late in May of last year, with the charges involving an officer kneeling on his neck for several minutes. Floyd used a counterfeit bill to buy cigarettes and then resisted police action, which is why the officer decided to use force.

The incident has triggered a series of protests in and out of US, spearheaded by the BLM (Black Lives Matter) movement. The young players of the Berlin-based club also stood up for anti-racism demonstrations.
