Account suspended for explaining what transgender women are

By: V4 Agency

The online portal only explained that a transgender woman is “a man who believes that he is a woman,” but Twitter says they have violated its “rules against hateful conduct” and decided to suspend the account until the post is removed.

Shortly after taking office, US President Joe Biden issued some new, and changed some existing executive orders. With one such move, he nominated Rachel Levine, an openly transgender woman, to be assistant secretary of health.

The Daily Citizen also reported on the nomination, describing Rachel Levine as “a transgender woman, that is, a man who believes she is a woman”. However, Twitter dispproved of the description and decided to suspend the The Daily Citizen’s account, a publication of the Christian Focus on the Family.

Twitter claimed that the tweet had violated its “rules against hateful conduct”. “You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease,” Twitter told The Daily Citizen in an email. “Please note that repeated violations may lead to a permanent suspension of your account,” Twitter warned.

The Daily Citizen, however, sees the issue differently, arguing that they simply explained to their readers what transgender women are and did not incite hatred. The portal added that Twitter’s decision to suspend their account qualified as discrimination on the basis of religion. Althugh The Daily Citizen appealed against Twitter’s decision, their appeal was denied. Twitter told the magazine  that their account would remain locked until the tweet in question is removed.
