As many as 300,000 households have left New York since March. The reason for this is to be found in the closure of the city due to the covid-19 pandemic and the increasingly flourishing crime that has erupted with protests by the extreme Black Lives Matter and Antifa.
In New York, nearly 300,000 households there (over 295,000) decided to change their address. The number specified is the number of requests to change the address. The townspeople of this American metropolis are leaving the five big neighbourhoods there as massively as recorded between March 1st and October 31st. The data included only relocations to districts in which eleven or more applications were submitted, districts with a smaller number of resettlement applications are not included at all. However, any request to change the address usually refers to the entire household and not just to individuals, so the number of actual relocations is significantly higher than the number of applications as such, reports RT.
The local post office recorded almost 245 thousand requests for a change of address between March and July alone, compared to 101 thousand the year before. The already mentioned pandemic of the new coronavirus, economic problems, a growing number of criminal acts and difficult educational institutions are blamed for the exodus. It is also worth mentioning the frightening fact that more than 33,000 people have died in the state of New York due to the consequences of a new coronavirus infection, which puts this state at the very top among all American states. In the city itself, over 24,000 deaths were recorded due to the virus. There were also some of the worst economic prisons in the entire country in what was once such a vibrant American city, resulting in the closure of thousands of restaurants, shops and other businesses.
It is also one of the big American cities, which was shaken by the riots of the extreme left-wing organisations Black Lives Matter and Antifa, which flared up after the death of black George Floyd months ago. A poll conducted by the Manhattan Institute between July 13th and August 3rd this year shows that as many as 44 percent of New Yorkers who generated over $100,000 in revenue annually considered leaving the city after March. Almost two-thirds, however, were convinced that they believed that the current situation in this metropolis was a “new normality” for this place. Respondents also admitted that their quality of life has deteriorated and satisfaction with the city is halved. The supply and demand rule also points to a growing desire to leave this American metropolis. Thus, renting a 20-meter U-Haul truck that would travel from New York to Nashville, Tennessee on December 4th, cost $2,153. For the same trip, the same day, in the opposite direction, you would spend a “meagre” $677 or less than a third of the rent, as if you wanted to leave New York with such a truck.

In this metropolis, however, the number of criminal acts is also on the rise, amounting to 344 murders between January and September, surpassing the total of 335 murders in 2019, with three months remaining in 2020. In addition, the number of shootings increased by as much as 94 percent. The data also shows that over 13,000 households moved to three counties in Florida and nearly 9,000 to Los Angeles. Governor Andrew Cuomo, otherwise unsuccessfully tried to get the wealthy people of New York to return to this metropolis, but in vain. In October, more than 16,000 homes in Manhattan were vacant, the most in 14 years. Yet Cuoma was not persuaded by this not to impose new restrictions related to the new coronavirus pandemic. Thus, on Wednesday, he issued a ban on gatherings for more than ten people, namely in homes, bars and restaurants are required to close at 22.00.
The center of New York lately is reminiscent of scenes from a post-apocalyptic film. According to the testimonies of former citizens, the situation is not expected to change. Not this time. New York is a city that has recovered from every disaster, but this time they found themselves in a time of disaster when the internet connection is fast enough that teleworking has become a reality. Footage of a drive through Manhattan, a central part of New York City that is empty, has been rounded up online. Shops are closed, business facilities are barricaded, the city is lonely. In other words, it dies a little more every meal.
