At the end of April 2022, the Slovenian Society Simon Gregorčič from Köping, Sweden, celebrated its 50th anniversary. Köping is an industrial city with around 18,000 inhabitants 150 km west of Stockholm, where most Slovenes came in the 1960s.
At the invitation of the Slovene Society from Köping, Ambassador Edvin Skrt attended the event, emphasizing that Slovenes are an inalienable part of the Slovene nation. He praised the preservation of Slovene identity, customs and especially the Slovene language. He expressed hope that Slovenes in Sweden would continue to maintain ties with each other and with Slovenia, and offered further support from the Embassy and the Slovenian Government.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Slovenia and Sweden, the Ambassador thanked all those who in 1991 actively advocated recognition of Slovenia by Sweden and for every contribution of individuals in strengthening ties between friendly countries.
The Ambassador presented the Association and its President Alojz Macuh with awards from the Office for Slovenes Abroad. He also presented Recognition Award from the Embassy.
There are nine Slovenian associations in Sweden, which are connected under the Slovenian Association in Sweden.
