The parliamentary group of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) has submitted an interpellation regarding the work and responsibility of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia to parliamentary procedure. All SDS MPs have signed the interpellation, and, according to announcements, it will also be supported in the debate by NSi. The essence of everything that is happening now is explained in the following paragraph.
Essence: Lies and manipulations about pensioners being harmed during the government of Janez Janša were stated on the very first day when the collection of signatures for a legislative referendum against privileges began – against the expansion of the circle of beneficiaries entitled to privileged pensions.
The contents of the interpellation were presented at a press conference by MP Zvone Černač. He stated that the purpose of the interpellation is to hold a debate due to the deliberate and conscious lies of Prime Minister Robert Golob regarding the claim that ZPIZ-2 resulted in a disadvantage for pensioners in terms of assessment percentages.
Due to these lies, the SDS parliamentary group publicly called on the Prime Minister and the Vice President of the National Assembly, Nataša Sukič, on Friday, February 21st, 2025, to publicly apologise for the false statements. Since no apology was made, they submitted a proposal to dismiss the President of the National Assembly, Nataša Sukič, as well as an interpellation regarding the work and responsibility of Robert Golob’s government.
The pension reform passed under the ZPIZ-2 law, which was unanimously approved by the National Assembly on December 4th, 2012, actually prevented the continued decline of pensions, which had begun with the ZPIZ-1 law from 2000, during the government of Janez Drnovšek.
The 2012 pension reform was adopted with the consensus of all political parties and social partners – a crucial difference compared to the approach of the current government, which seeks to introduce changes without the necessary agreement.
Instead of presenting facts and expert arguments, Prime Minister Robert Golob and the coalition are using manipulations to conceal the true intentions of their pension reform, which will reduce future pensions and worsen the position of pensioners. The reform proposes extending the period used for pension calculations from the 24 most favourable years to the entire working life, meaning 40 years.
MP Černač specifically pointed out: “These lies and manipulations about pensioners being harmed during the Janša government were stated on the very first day when the collection of signatures began for a subsequent legislative referendum against privileges – against the expansion of the circle of those entitled to privileged pensions, allowing many more people to receive a ‘golden pension’ of €3,200 and a ‘silver pension’ between €2,000 and €3,000.”
Since the government has no arguments to justify these privileges and is aware that pensioners will overwhelmingly vote AGAINST them in the referendum, the Prime Minister resorted to false accusations and manipulations regarding pensions after 2012 in an attempt to demobilise the electorate that most strongly opposes these privileges.
“The Slovenian Democratic Party will use all parliamentary means to oppose the manipulations of the current government and will strive to protect the rights of current and future pensioners. We expect a serious and fact-based debate on the future of the pension system, rather than populist statements and public deception,” Černač added.
