The Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia, the current Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, and the President of the DeSUS party Aleksandra Pivec has recently been presented in the Slovenian public as the biggest criminal because she allegedly spent the night in a hotel at the expense of Vinakras and the municipalities Brdo and Izola. In the following article, we will take a look at who paid for the trips of the former Prime Minister Marjan Šarec, President of the SAB party Alenka Bratušek, former Minister of Education, Science and Sport Jernej Pikalo, Ph.D., Member of the European Parliament and the President of the SD party Tanja Fajon, and two Members of Parliament from the Levica party, Violeta Tomić and Miha Kordiš. In the following days, we will also present the cases of other prominent representatives of the left-wing political elite, who have also enjoyed visits to luxurious locations all around the world, at the expense of the taxpayers and the hosts.

We are going to show you how well the chosen ones from the left political option are taken care of. In the past, they have visited various luxury locations around the world, at the expense of the Slovenian taxpayers, or their hosts. The President of the LMŠ party, Marjan Šarec, made excellent use of all the benefits offered to him when he was still the Prime Minister. So he figured out how he could take a family trip to Vienna at the expense of the taxpayers. They were accompanied by security. Among other things, one of the reasons for their trip was a visit to the Vienna Zoo. In the past, we have already reported that Marjan Šarec’s trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos cost the Slovenian taxpayers 13,212.02 euros. The apartment in which he slept is valued at 862.58 euros per night.

Former Minister of Infrastructure and President of the SAB party, Alenka Bratušek, also made good use of the benefits that she enjoyed during the time of Šarec’s Government. Between September 9th and September 12th, 2019, she attended the World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The slogan of the congress was Energy for Prosperity. Her team’s trip cost the taxpayers 16 thousand euros. However, we did not pay for her stay in one of the most luxurious hotels, as this was paid for by the organizers of the three-day conference. Even the journalist of Delo found this unusual, as they wondered who benefits from Alenka Bratušek’s exotic travels. The mainstream media turned Aleksandra Pivec’s alleged overnight stays in Izola and Sežana into a media affair. Given that hotel accommodation in Abu Dhabi is among the most expensive in the world, you can probably imagine the level of comfort Bratušek got to enjoy.

During the time of Šarec’s Government, Jernej Pikalo took 22 business trips; three days at the Hilton Hotel cost the Slovenian taxpayers 2,200 euros

The former Minister of Education, Science and Sport in Šarec’s government, Jernej Pikalo, Ph.D., also knew how to enjoy himself at the expense of Slovenian taxpayers. The long-time academic professor did not give up on his old habits after coming to work at the Ministry of Education, where he indulged in many things – at the expense of the Slovenian citizens. In 2019 alone, Pikalo took 22 business trips, an average of two to three a month, of course at the expense of the taxpayers. 5,500 euros for Japan, almost 2,000 euros for two days in Minsk, and three days at the Hilton Hotel in New York for 2,200 euros.

The affair of Minister Pikalo’s travels was one of the topics on the show Tarča on RTV Slovenija. On the show, Pikalo tried to excuse his frequent trips, claiming that the big number of trips was due to the scope of the Ministry, which covers everything from sports to science. He even claimed that the Ministry turns down a large number of invitations. It is clear that the former Minister of Education enjoys luxury, even though he tried to deny it. “We are very modest in our costs, compared to other Ministries and other consumers,” Pikalo added, emphasizing that “trips like these do cost money, but they always have a purpose. The government sends me to these trips; I do not send myself.” Pikalo forgot to mention that the decisions of the government, on the basis of which he was then sent on business trips, were proposed by himself, as he was the Minister.
Tanja Fajon enjoyed Kenya, Levica’s MPs Violeta Tomić and Miha Kordiš travelled for free and stayed in Venezuela at the expense of its poor citizens
On the website of the leading politician of the SD party, Tanja Fajon, we noticed that she was part of the European Parliament delegation in Nairobi, Kenya, as a member of the Observation Mission during the presidential elections, which were held on August 8th, 2017, in Kenya. This was a part of the EU Observation Mission, which has been monitoring the increasingly tense situation in a country that was otherwise considered one of the most stable in Africa.
In 2015, the then-“fresh” MPs of the Levica party, Violeta Tomić and Miha Kordiš, attended a conference on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements for the Defense of Humanity. At the time, Kordiš told the journalist Jurij Šimc of the newspaper Finance the following: “As is customary on such occasions, the costs of transport and accommodation were covered by the host, and I covered my personal expenses.” Both MPs, along with 50 other participants, flew to Venezuela on the plane of the late President Hugo Chavez.

These are just a few examples that you can discover with just a few clicks online. Is Aleksandra Pivec still the biggest problem? You decide.
