The government continues to have low support; is a shift among parties on the horizon?

By: Moja Dolenjska

Robert Golob’s government continues to register low public trust, with nearly two-thirds of respondents expressing disapproval. Among political parties, the SDS maintains the lead and has further widened its advantage over the ruling Gibanje Svoboda, according to a Ninamedia poll for Dnevnik. The newspaper notes that the Gibanje Svoboda can no longer realistically catch up to the SDS, as the gap between them has grown too large.

If elections were held this Sunday, SDS would be supported by slightly more respondents than last month – 25.1% (compared to 24.3% in April). Gibanje Svoboda would receive 17.1% (April: 17.2%). They are followed by SD with 7.6% (April: 7.3%), Levica with 6.3% (April: 6.5%), NSi with 5% (April: 5.3%), Democrats with 4.1% (April: 4.7%), Vesna with 2% (April: 2.3%), and SLS with 1.4% (April: 1.6%).

24.1% of respondents (April: 21.3%) said they do not know who they would vote for. 3.3% (April: 3.4%) said they would not vote, and 4% (April: 6.1%) said they would vote for another party, naming Resni.ca, SNS, DeSUS, Voice of Pensioners, Mi, Socialists, Pirate Party, Connect Slovenia, Focus, Konkretno, a potential party of Vladimir Prebilič, and the Greens of Slovenia.

37% of respondents rated the government’s work as successful (April: 36.1%), while 59.4% rated it as unsuccessful (April: 59.2%). 3.6% (April: 4.7%) did not express an opinion.

Among all past prime ministers, the highest number of respondents – 44.4% – said Janez Drnovšek performed best. He was followed by Janez Janša (26.3%), Robert Golob (7%), Borut Pahor (6%), and Lojze Peterle (3%).
