The foundation stone for the construction of a new school building was laid this week in the school garden of the Fran Albrecht Primary School in Kamnik. Minister of Education Simona Kustec emphasised that this is a day of a new bright future for Kamnik: “Because I believe that knowledge is the first guide for development and the future.” The unfinished project of building a primary school is a skeleton from the time of Marjan Šarec’s mayoralty, where more than 1.5 million euros were lost, and the entire investment was estimated at a fabulous 21 million euros.

The construction of the new building of the Fran Albrecht primary school in Kamnik is finally moving, as the foundation stone was laid today. The renovation is a story with a long beard, which dates back to March 2007, when the municipality of Kamnik began preparatory work for the construction, adaptation and extension of the Fran Albrecht Primary School and the Tom Brejc Primary School. Fran Albrecht Primary School, built in 1963, was earthquake-hazardous, fire-hazardous, the installations and pipes were supposedly dilapidated, and it was also completely inadequate in terms of space – for example, the problem was solved by changing the hall into a classroom and a chamber. The school is also extremely energy consuming.

Soon after the beginning of Marjan Šarec’s mayoralty (in 2010), things got complicated again, as it seems, he was not satisfied if everything was not according to him. The materials for the extraordinary session on March 2nd, 2011 showed that both schools could be rehabilitated and added, for which it would be necessary to change the project construction documentation (PGD), the document identifying the investment program (DIIP) and OPPN. During Šarec’s mayoralty in Kamnik, more than 1.5 million euros flowed out of the municipal budget for only 8 years of designing the Fran Albrecht Primary School, and according to conservative estimates, the value of the entire project, without the already mentioned design costs, rose to 21 million, which in terms of value is one of the most expensive projects in this municipality and one of the most expensive primary schools in general.

The new government is thus rescuing the skeletons of former mayor Šarec, and this year alone has provided an additional 72.5 million euros to co-finance investments in kindergartens and primary education in the budget period between 2021 and 2024. The Ministry will allocate funds to municipalities. A total of 115.5 million euros for 126 projects will be earmarked for investment in educational institutions in the budget period between 2021 and 2024.
