The coalition, by obstructing the work of the investigative commission on the C0 Canal, is endangering clean drinking water

At the press conference, Anja Bah Žibert, MP from the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) and chair of the parliamentary inquiry commission on the C0 Canal project, condemned the coalition’s unacceptable conduct, accusing it of systematically avoiding the commission’s work and rejecting its findings.

“Let us recall the disgrace before the parliamentary recess,” emphasised Bah Žibert. “The coalition literally waited in the hallway, counted heads, and then rejected the entire interim report – including sections that clearly showed individual responsibility. The report contains more than a hundred findings proving that the canal is illegal, unnecessary, harmful, and dangerous to human health, while also draining millions in taxpayer money.”

Bah Žibert added that by no longer attending commission sessions, coalition MPs are obstructing the commission’s work and avoiding accountability: “Water should never carry a political label. We are talking about clean drinking water, which must be in the interest of all citizens. Instead, the coalition is running from the truth, because their own ministers are involved.”

SDS MP Franci Kepa echoed the concern, calling the coalition’s behaviour a sign of complete irresponsibility: “This is about drinking water – without which there is no life. It should not be politicised. There is no excuse for coalition MPs to skip sessions. If experts agree that the C0 Canal is an ecological bomb and a threat to the health of over 300,000 Ljubljana residents, then responsibility must prevail over political interest.”

Bah Žibert announced that the opposition, together with NSi, will file a one-third request to summon key witnesses, including Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, Prime Minister Robert Golob, and attorney Klemen Golob.

“Clearly, the coalition fears these hearings. So let me say it again, loud and clear: stop playing games, use your heads, and ensure the safety of our citizens when it comes to clean drinking water,” Bah Žibert concluded.
