On Friday, the Attorney General, Katarina Bergant, received a salary of €7,064, which was higher than that of Prime Minister Robert Golob, who earned €6,771, President of the Republic Nataša Pirc Musar with €6,679, President of the Constitutional Court Matej Accetto with €6,549.93, and Speaker of the National Assembly Urška Klakočar Zupančič with €6,510.
The highest salary overall, along with a retroactive payment, was received by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Miodrag Đorđević, although it is not yet clear how much, as I have not received a response from the Supreme Court regarding this. The salary increase for prosecutors and judges is the result of a Constitutional Court ruling that their salaries were unconstitutionally low. They also received retroactive payments. Bergant received an additional €6,555 in back pay, bringing her total salary to €12,709 for this month.
Correction: In the article, I initially incorrectly stated in the headline and text that the Attorney General received €12,709 in back pay this month. In fact, the back pay was €5,655. The higher amount is the sum of the salary and retroactive pay. I apologise to the readers and the Attorney General for the mistake. The data in the table was correct all along.
The Constitutional Court increased salaries because the government, even after the ruling to correct judicial salaries, did not take action on their own. Even after the court’s ruling on the increase, the government did not determine the salary amounts themselves. The gross salary and back pay amounts, which include a seniority supplement and a position supplement (granted to department heads), for the senior prosecutors who received their salaries on Friday are as follows:
Name | Position | Gross Salary (August) | Retroactive Pay (Jan 3 – July 31) | Total Gross Payout (Sept 13) |

The salary and back pay amounts do not include reimbursements for commuting expenses or meal allowances. Already on Friday, when these salaries were paid, I immediately received the salary data for all members of parliament from the National Assembly, as well as from the President of the Republic and the Constitutional Court. President Nataša Pirc Musar received a gross salary of €6,679 and a net salary of €3,796 for August 2024. Former President Milan Kučan, who is the only person in the country entitled by law to a monthly payment equal to the difference between 80 percent of his former salary and his pension, received a gross amount of €1,398 and a net amount of €1,048 as part of this special allowance for August 2024.
