Take a look at the Virtual Museum of Slovenian Independence!

By: C. R.

You are welcome to visit the website https://osamosvojitev.si/ created by the Association for the Values of Slovenian Independence. On this website, you will find publications related to Slovenian independence, photographs, and interviews with numerous participants in the independence process. It is worth exploring and reading!

Last year, the Association for the Values of Slovenian Independence initiated and financed the recording of short interviews with the most prominent surviving participants in the independence process. Members of the Slovenian Assembly and government, the presidency of the republic, the coordinating group for defence management, and other organisations were invited. They all answered the same question: “What personally impressed you the most during the independence period?”

Thus, the association obtained valuable, some very personal perspectives on that fateful time, each seen and judged through their own eyes. The actors were in the government and the opposition, in civil society and in uniform, immersed in daily turmoil or partially removed from key events. Unique and precious testimonies were collected, which vividly complement the gathered documentary material. Some of this material was previously published in a collection of documents titled “Bela knjiga slovenske osamosvojitve” (The White Book of Slovenian Independence) and in the collection “Vojna za Slovenijo” (War for Slovenia). Both collections are now available in electronic form on the aforementioned website, which at least to some extent (hopefully temporarily) replaces the unreasonably closed Museum of Slovenian Independence.

In the future, the online museum will be expanded with the publication of additional documents and testimonies. Therefore, the Association for the Values of Slovenian Independence kindly invites all visitors to this portal to send documents, photographs, audio, and video recordings from that time if they possess them. You can send them to the email address: [email protected]. The VSO association expresses their gratitude in advance and concludes with the words, “Long live independent and democratic Slovenia!”
