There was a strong earthquake in Slovenia and Croatia today at 12.20 p.m.
Its epicenter was 44 kilometers from the Croatian capital Zagreb and only 3 km from town of Petrinje in Croatia, where a 12-year old girl died, and half of the city is in ruins. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6, 3. Croatia already faced an earthquake a day before, with a magnitude of 5, 2, which was also felt in Slovenia. Earthquake, and its aftershocks, were also felt in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia.
In Slovenia, the earthquake did not cause much damage, although it was felt all over the country. There was some minor damage caused in some buildings, houses, and churches. The nuclear plant in Krško was preventively shut down in case of any new earthquakes or aftershocks. The Slovenian government has already offered help to Croatian neighbors who suffered much harsher consequences.
