“It is time to stop speculating about the possibilities of constructive distrust and instead focus on better cooperation of all in curbing the epidemic and measures for economic and health recovery. Only together can we overcome the epidemic,” the SMC announced after today’s meeting of the parliamentary group and acquaintance with Jože P. Damijan’s offer to join the KUL coalition. At the same time, President Počivalšek calls for a broad partnership between the coalition and the opposition.

At today’s meeting with the party’s parliamentary group, SMC President Zdravko Počivalšek presented the content of the conversation with the leader of the KUL coalition, Jože Damijan. All eight deputies unanimously supported the decision of the party leadership that forming a new government does not make sense.

Instead of undermining the functioning of the government, the cooperation of all social and political forces is now necessary, according to them. “The SMC is a party of dialogue and cooperation that wants to overcome the harmful rift in the political space. Slovenia is facing a health and economic crisis that requires operational and efficient work. Participation in the coalition is fair and efficient, and we would like to have a more constructive conversation with the opposition,” they said.

Počivalšek calls for a broad partnership to contain the epidemic

At the same time, President Počivalšek said that the problems before us were too great to be overcome in such a fierce battle between the coalition and the opposition. “That is why I call on everyone, both the opposition and our coalition partners, to calm down the way we communicate and make another attempt to form a broad partnership between the government and the opposition to tackle this biggest challenge of the time. It is time to stop speculating about the possibilities of constructive distrust and instead focus on better cooperation between everyone in curbing the epidemic and measures for economic and health recovery. Only together can we defeat the epidemic,” the second largest government party said.
