Early that morning, four medical teams of the Slovenian Armed Forces entered several Slovenian hospitals, where they will help in intensive care units, emergency medicine departments and other hospital wards.
The medical teams of the Slovenian Armed Forces are starting to work in support of the health care system of the Republic of Slovenia. Four teams will help in intensive care units, emergency medicine departments and other hospital wards in the University Medical Center in Ljubljana and Maribor, as well as in general hospitals in Celje and Novo mesto, everywhere in accordance with the needs. The teams consist of a medical graduate, a nursing technician, a male nurse, and two to three paramedics.
Since March 2020, members of the Slovenian Armed Forces have been continuously supporting joint efforts to curb the spread of covid-19 with their capabilities. Among other things, the military medical unit conducts rapid tests for civil servants, they vaccinated critical infrastructure and Olympians against the new virus, the Kranj military post has a vaccination center, the veterinary unit disinfects the premises and equipment of public institutions, logistics units provide transport by trucks and buses and hot meals for external institutions, the military medical unit performed preventive or rapid examinations of Slovenian citizens returning from abroad, in the military post of Edvard Peperk in Ljubljana they set up a mobile hospital Role 2, which is accommodation operational, in the laboratory for nuclear, radiological, chemical and biological defense they set up a mobile biological laboratory where they can analyse swabs, the Slovenian Army aviation provided air transport of Slovenian citizens from abroad and cargo with protective and medical equipment, an X-ray module was installed in front of the UKC.
At the same time, the Military Medical Unit of the Slovenian Armed Forces also carries out its basic mission, as it provides preventive health care for employees of the Ministry of Defence and members of the Slovenian Armed Forces, medical examinations of candidates for soldiers, volunteers and contract reservists, it provides the first level of medical care (basic medical care, specialised first aid, triage, resuscitation, stabilisation and medical evacuation) and maintains the capacity of the Role 2LM MTF medical unit, veterinary unit and laboratory units for nuclear, radiological, chemical and biological defence.
