Prime Minister Janez Janša says Zoran Stevanović and his sympathisers should volunteer for work in COVID wards

By: UKOM

Prime Minister Janez Janša responded to a letter from Zoran Stevanović, president of the Resni.ca party. In the letter, Zoran Stevanović calls for the immediate abolition of the recovered/vaccinated/tested rule and immediate resignation of the Government.

Published below is the entire letter from the Prime Minister and the letter from the president of the Resni.ca party.

Dear Mr Stevanović,

Today there are 428 patients with COVID-19 in Slovenian hospitals, 123 of them in intensive care. The youngest patient is 27 years old. Yesterday, five more of our fellow citizens died as a result of this disease.

You claim that COVID does not exist or is not dangerous and that the measures to contain it, which have been taken all over the world, are unnecessary.

There is a simple way for “Resnica” (“The Truth”) to verify the true dangers of COVID. Instead of rioting in the streets, attacking health workers, journalists and police officers, you should volunteer to work in COVID wards, stay there for a week without protective equipment and prove to Slovenia that you believe what you are saying.

As regards your threats to obstruct the EU summit in Slovenia: the more of a disturbance you will make, the more the EU will understand and support the actions we will take. Take a look around, and you will see that there are quite a few others like you across the EU who are taking advantage of people’s plight, obstructing health measures, rioting and claiming that the earth is flat. It is true, however, that nowhere else are they made heroes by the central media. This is only happening in Slovenia, which is why we have lower vaccination coverage than the EU average and are paying a higher price in the fight against the epidemic.

Nevertheless, 1,130,000 people, or 63% of the adult population, have been vaccinated in Slovenia so far. Many have already recovered from the disease, while some cannot be vaccinated due to their health status. All of us together are hostages of you and people like you, who, despite making a lot of noise, are in the distinct minority, arrogantly declaring yourselves to be the voice of the people. In a constitutional democracy, you can refer to the people insofar as you get people’s votes in the elections. All the rest is a totalitarian proto-fascist or proto-communist whim. You and your godfathers should abandon the illusion that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia will give in to these pressures.

Thanks to you and your like, Slovenia is also suffering great economic damage resulting in higher costs for healthcare and all preventive measures and consequently in less money for salaries, pensions, kindergartens, schools and hospitals.  Mass gatherings organised by you without the recovered/vaccinated/tested rule further spread the virus across the country, causing illness and death. Your actions and those you even predict or threaten with in your letter indicate a well-founded suspicion of criminal offences as set out in Articles 177, 297 and 354 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Slovenia. The competent authorities are obliged to act in accordance with the law. Otherwise, they themselves share the responsibility for the consequences of your actions.

Janez Janša
