At a press conference of the SDS parliamentary group, SDS MP Branko Grims presented a draft declaration in support of the European Parliament Resolution of April 2nd, 2009 on European consciousness and totalitarianism. The European Parliament based this resolution on the Vilnius Declaration and adopted it in the light of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

“Totalitarian systems are all, without exception, rejected, they are criminal and they are something we must be especially aware of today,” said SDS MP Branko Grims, adding that the motion for a resolution is extremely important, as it places all totalitarianisms in unison, as criminal and rejected.

According to the MP, the resolution is all the more important, as new totalitarianisms appear in the third millennium, based either on cultural Marxism or Islamic radicalism, as well as on high technology, such as e.g. in China.

“This makes it all the more important that the National Assembly is united and that our proposal is supported on what was the basis for the European resolution. This is that all totalitarian systems are rejected, that all are criminal, all worthy of condemnation, and that all victims of all totalitarian regimes are worthy of all respect, worthy of recognition and rehabilitation.”

Grims further clarified that totalitarianisms, regardless of their origin, cannot be treated differently and that there can be no exceptions.

“Many times a mistake has been made in the past that such or other people, some perhaps well-intentioned, or relied on by the propaganda to which they were exposed, thought that one of the totalitarian systems could be justified, could be tolerated, or even glorified, because it had some good ideas, because it was based on good intentions. Unfortunately, this is not the case.” The MP concluded with an old proverb that the path to hell is paved with good intentions, adding that evil must be completely rejected.
