We reported that last night the unknown perpetrators vandalized the front of the building of the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry published photos this morning that show black stains on the façade. Along with the photos published on Twitter they wrote that there was damage worth several thousand euros. As they said, this was just one of many attacks on the Ministry and its employees that are happening lately.

“Similar paint as the one that was thrown in the Ministry building was just thrown in front of the house of the Minister Dr. Simoniti. The situation in serious. The year 2012 when enraged crowds harassed people in their homes is happening all over again. Police, protect the legitimately elected leaders! The fate of the rule of law is in your hands!” Wrote Mitja Iršič on Twitter.

As they wrote on Twitter, “Strangers in the night have caused several euros of damage to the taxpayers by completely ruining the façade. Just another in a row of attacks on Ministry that have been going on for weeks”.

Miro Petek also commented the attack on his Twitter profile: “Yesterday afternoon they announced their night action to the Ministry. Barbarians. More for the sanitation of the façade, less for culture.”

In a later report they wrote that this was the most recent case of an unacceptable vandalism and destruction of a public structure that reflects the wider state in the country. “Employees of the Ministry are under tremendous pressure, they are even afraid to go to work. “ The Ministry decisively reject this kind of escalation. There is no room for such excess in a democratic state where the rule of law governs. We call on to the police to find the perpetrators, who are getting bolder from day to day, as soon as possible, before something worse happens”, they added.

The police have already responded. Deputy Director General of the Police, Tomaž Pečjak, confirmed on a noon press conference about the current situation regarding COVID-19 that unknown persons tarnished the building, using balloons filled with black paint. Detectives are continuing with the investigation and when it will be finished, they will inform State Attorney’s Office, while the police administration will inform the media.

Complete message for the public from the Ministry of Culture

“In front of the Ministry of Culture similar “actions” took turns since the summer, usually signed by a group of cultural workers. The most controversial action was when they graphically threatened with the massacre by putting names of the Minister and his coworkers on a blood stained tables and chairs. Yesterday strangers placed stickers on the windows of the Ministry, depicting the head of Zlatan Čordić, while over his mouth were written the names of public workers, employed at the Ministry. Apart from that, Zlatko Čordić recently visited the Ministry, where he yelled at, and threatened a public worker, told her that he was filming her and even claimed that we works for an intelligence service. The female employer is scared for her life, and has reported Čordić to the police.

With this last uncultured desecration of our building we believe that it is a new case of unacceptable vandalism and destruction of public infrastructure that reflects the wider state in our country. The employees of the Ministry are under tremendous pressure, they are even afraid to go to work. The Ministry decisively reject this kind of escalation. There is no room for such excess in a democratic state where the rule of law governs. We call on to the police to find the perpetrators, who are getting bolder from day to day, as soon as possible, before something worse happens.
