“History teaches us that the closer a regime is to its end, the crazier it becomes. Those who closely follow parliamentary sessions can clearly see where we stand today in Slovenia. The deceit has surpassed all limits. It has no bottom. It is only limited by time. Fortunately, that time is quickly running out.”
At the ceremonial academy on the 36th anniversary of the founding of SDS in Laško, SDS leader Janez Janša stated: “In the past year, the media and judicial dehumanisation of SDS continued, following the leftist formula practiced since 1941: first discreditation, then liquidation. We are allowed to be threatened with death, while they cannot even be mildly criticised. Any criticism is declared an attack on independent institutions or hate speech. While our words are being taken away even in parliament, Golob’s followers are handing out state awards and privileges to people who call us a rat party.”
Janša did not rule out the possibility that the left will try to finish the mandate, even though it has already lost voter support and will only worsen.
“You will no longer take away our words, you will no longer revoke our mandates, you will no longer violate the rules of procedure without consequences, you will no longer financially destroy us, and you will no longer condemn and imprison us before elections.”
He described the reasons for this stance:
“If they allow the continuation of Golob’s government until the end of the term, they risk a bigger defeat than in the case of sudden early elections with the classic trick of a new face. However, in this case, they can still appoint a majority by the end of the term, i.e., 5 left-wing constitutional judges for the next 9 years. And so, through the Constitutional Court, they will continue to block the necessary reforms. In the case of early elections, they can expect a better result, given the declining trends in support, compared to if the miserable collapse of Golobism lasts another year, but they may lose the absolute majority and thus the chance to maintain the left-wing monopoly in the Constitutional Court. The dilemmas of the deep state’s ayatollahs are serious. Therefore, we must be ready for even more nervousness and even more abuse of institutions until the end of the mandate or early elections.”
SDS has long been the most popular party in the country according to all public opinion polls. Janša predicted that changes will occur in Slovenia, similar to what we have seen in the US after a change of government but warned that structural changes will only be possible if greater voter support is achieved in elections.
On the social network X, this was summarised as follows:
@JJansaSDS: We will protect:
(1) Freedom of speech
(2) Citizens’ right to vote
(3) The right to a fair trial
(4) Gender as a natural category – a father is a man, and a mother is a woman
(5) Children’s rights in defence against ideology in schools
(6) Democracy as the rule of the elected
(7) The electoral process in its entirety from illegal financing and foreign influence
(8) Financial autonomy of municipalities
The speech of SDS President Janez Janša on the 36th anniversary of SDS was as follows:
“The events of the past year, since we gathered at our last anniversary, have been turbulent. While wars and intense conflicts raged around the world, tectonic political shifts began in parts of the Western civilisation, and the revolution of reason began, in Slovenia, we have witnessed the continuation of a political burlesque. Unfortunately, this ‘golobarjenje’ (Golob’s political theatre) not only brings laughter but also very concrete negative consequences for the well-being of the Slovenian people.
History teaches us that the closer a regime is to its end, the crazier it becomes. Anyone who closely follows parliamentary sessions can clearly see where we are in this regard today in Slovenia. ‘Golobarjenje’ has crossed all boundaries. It has no bottom. It is only limited by time, and fortunately, that time is running out fast.
Gibanje Svoboda, an instant party that gained 41 parliamentary mandates in the last election mainly due to the dismantling of health measures and media monopolies during the pandemic, is in free fall in public opinion. It is now clear that the transitional left will no longer rely on it as a party that can gain a relative majority in the next election.
After the great victory of SDS in the European Parliament elections and the dominance of the SDS Forum for Agriculture and Rural Affairs in the elections to the Slovenian Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry, the nervousness of the transitional left has only increased. A plan to introduce a new face was launched. However, the first attempt to launch a new green-red face during the referendum campaign for the JEK2 (Krško Nuclear Power Plant) and then trigger early elections failed miserably at the last minute. So now, new parties with different pretexts and intentions are being founded and sponsored. Some to weaken us, others to prevent Rupar’s retirees from entering the National Assembly, and others to replace Golob’s Gibanje Svoboda. Anže Logar’s party, which suddenly is no longer a platform for cooperation but rather for maintaining the primacy of the left, in its creation in just one week received more space in the monopolistic media of the left-wing network than SDS has received in an entire year. Meanwhile, they violate signed and agreed commitments in broad daylight, steal mandates from voters, and even misuse the name of their former party, while preaching about values and political culture to us and the public.
In the past year, the media and judicial dehumanisation of SDS continued, following the leftist formula practiced since 1941: first discreditation, then liquidation. We are allowed to be threatened with death, while they cannot even be mildly criticised. Any criticism is declared an attack on independent institutions or hate speech. While our words are being taken away even in parliament, Golob’s followers distribute state awards and privileges to people who declare us a rat party. They mock the Slovenian flag, motherhood, the Slovenian independence struggle, the victims of the war for Slovenia, and democracy. The most direct attempt at Golobist privilege distribution for uncultured, anti-cultural outbursts is the law on enormous pension bonuses for these privileged individuals, which we will stop with a referendum. This is also a symbolic action. Enough is enough. For sick children, we collect bottle caps and donations, patients die in waiting lists, while for deranged leftists, tens of millions of your money are directed through various channels.
As always, practice has shown that neither media monopolies nor millions in budget funds and international left-wing connections can hide the glaring incompetence and corruption of the new left-wing faces in running the country. The house of cards is collapsing, and it will be very difficult to prevent its demise until the end of the mandate. The current dilemma of the deep state, which largely controls the transitional left, is focused mainly around the Constitutional Court.
If they allow the continuation of Golob’s government until the end of the mandate, they risk a bigger defeat than in the case of sudden early elections with the classic trick of a new face. However, in this case, they can appoint a majority by the end of the mandate, i.e., 5 left-wing constitutional judges for the next 9 years. And so, through the Constitutional Court, they will continue to block the necessary reforms.
In the case of early elections, they can expect a better result, given the declining trends in support, compared to if the miserable collapse of Golobism lasts another year, but they might lose the absolute majority and, with it, the opportunity to maintain the left-wing monopoly in the Constitutional Court.
The dilemmas of the deep state’s ayatollahs are serious. Therefore, we must be ready for even greater nervousness and more abuses of institutions until the end of the mandate or early elections. We know that the transitional left in Slovenia has never won an election fairly and that they will once again use their corrupt judicial and media monopolies. But they must know that this time, we will not be putting up another face and that we will resist abuses.
You will no longer take away our words, you will no longer revoke our mandates, you will no longer violate the rules of procedure of the National Assembly with impunity, you will no longer destroy us financially, and you will no longer condemn and imprison us before elections.
Our Expert Council has prepared a detailed programme for the future government and the next mandate. We are aware that the challenge will be great and that we can only face it with a strong majority in the National Assembly and prepared solutions. We have put in a lot of work, which may not be visible but is crucial for successful governance of the country.
I express my thanks to the chairs and members of all 16 committees of the Expert Council and their teams, who worked tirelessly for 18 months on preparing the programme and staffing framework for the future government and ministries. They all deserve a big round of applause.
In some cases, simply classic reforms will not be enough, and structures will need to be rebuilt. This is only possible with a strong victory by SDS. But even a strong victory will not be enough. The changes around us, the deranged left-wing politics in the EU and Slovenia in recent times, have led to a situation where the additions to our constitution are necessary.
With them, we will specifically protect: (1) Freedom of speech, (2) Citizens’ voting rights, (3) Right to a fair trial, (4) Gender as a natural category – father is a man and mother is a woman, (5) Children’s rights to protection from ideology in schools, (6) Democracy as the rule of elected officials, (7) The electoral process entirely from illegal financing and foreign influence, (8) Financial independence of municipalities; and limit in reasonable frameworks (1) Taxes or share of GDP for state and public spending, (2) The scope or quantity of valid regulations, (3) The influence of EU bureaucracy on Slovenia’s constitutional environment.
For all this, Slovenia needs a constitutional majority of reason in the next mandate. It is a big goal. It requires a big step. To take such a step, three fundamental conditions, like in the time of Slovenian independence, must be met. These conditions are:
- External, international environment conducive to change;
- A clearly defined goal in which Slovenians recognise themselves;
- A political force capable of understanding the opportunity and need of the time.
Slovenians won democracy and the state during the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of communism in Europe. In the battle for independent Slovenia, most of the nation identified. Demos understood the opportunity and need of the time, and despite great opposition from the transitional left, they achieved the goal.
Today, a revolution of reason has started in Western civilisation. Based on the pulse among the people and public opinion polls, most of the nation generally supports the solutions we have outlined as necessary constitutional amendments. The Slovenian Democratic Party is the political force that, from the very beginning, has demonstrated that it can understand the needs and opportunities of the time. It accepts challenges. It is a political force that does not exclude but connects.
Therefore, all three key conditions are met for this great goal. The time of great steps lies ahead of us.
The first step is to strengthen our ranks. The trend of people joining our party is very good and must continue. Every new member is a new, big step toward our victory. A victory that will bring the possibility of a constitutional majority. A victory that will allow a liberated Slovenia, where freedom of speech will be guaranteed, and where the dignity of every person will be protected. A liberated Slovenia will unlock potential that will elevate Slovenia back among the winners, and with reasonable governance, provide the people with opportunities for prosperity, security, and peaceful life.
We managed when we were imprisoned, bombarded, and shot at. We managed when we wrote our own judgment as a nation in the plebiscite, and we can do it today when it is necessary to finally realise the plebiscite will. We will take back the stolen state, and no one can prevent us. New generations have grown up who know about their homeland. A liberated Slovenia is closer today than many think and more so than those who have never truly embraced an independent Slovenia wish.
Dear members of SDS, thank you for the millions of actions that have strengthened us significantly over the past year. You were exceptional in both election campaigns, in strengthening the membership, and in promoting our programme and values among our fellow citizens. Thank you for your time, courage, and sacrifices. Sincere congratulations to all who will receive deserved recognition today.
Let’s give a big round of applause to Romana and the entire team of our candidates in the European Parliament elections. The convincing, winning result confirmed the growing power of the Slovenian Democratic Party.
Let’s also applaud Jože and the team from the Forum for Agriculture and Rural Affairs for their great victory in the elections to the Slovenian Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry. Slovenian farmers and Slovenian rural areas have once again regained an organisation that will fight for them.
Many thanks also to all of you and thousands of others who helped in both campaigns.
Dear colleagues, sincere congratulations on our shared 36th birthday. The Slovenian Democratic Party is entering a period of its greatest political strength at a time when Slovenia urgently needs it again. The year ahead and many of the following will be in the rhythms of Slovenian song and the colours of the blue sky and yellow sun. God bless our Slovenia. Freedom to Slovenia. Freedom to proud Slovenia. Freedom to Slovenia, which will be victorious.”
