It is not true, but it is: The March 8th Institute wants to introduce a hot meal in schools – what was already introduced by the first Janša’s government, but abolished by the SD party

The March 8th Institute has submitted a bill today, with which they want to provide free lunches to all elementary school students. When the bills were introduced, they reported “live” from the parliament, cheerfully recording videos, all this at a time when the country has been rocked by a decades-long rape scandal. To make the irony complete, the purpose of the laws is to provide free meals in primary schools. It is an identical measure that was adopted by the government of Janez Janša, and then withdrawn by the government of Borut Pahor. In addition, the name of the campaign “It is about the children” was stolen from Aleš Primc.

11 days after the first serious accusations of sexual harassment, drugging and raping of girls in the Ljubljana cultural and artistic centre appeared on the Instagram social network, and fully aware that new accusations appear on a daily basis, the March 8th Institute continues its social-political work. Since Dušan Smodej, who comes from their worldview and friendly circles, is accused of crimes, the story is not politically interesting for them, in fact, it is very difficult for them to distance themselves from it, since it happened in their “centre”, so they have only addressed the topic once so far, but today they continue to serve their political masters. As if nothing happened.

The political hypocrisy of March 8th and the entire political left

The bill proposed by the girls from March 8th Institute would introduce free lunches in elementary schools. “One of the reasons for such a decision is that primary school education should be free in accordance with the law,” said Mojca Lukan from March 8th Institute. But just such a law was submitted this year by the SDS parliamentary group, and the government of Robert Golob rejected it on the basis of “technical deficiencies”, and Levica party called it nothing less than populism. The fate of the law will be extremely interesting, as it is a measure that was widely promoted by the Social Democrats before the elections. The rejected SDS’ law was clearly more generous than the one filed by March 8th Institute, as it introduced not only a free lunch, but also a 50% snack subsidy.

Milan Zver already introduced free lunches

Slovenian children could have been eating free lunches in primary schools since 2008, as they were already introduced by the Minister of Education at the time, Milan Zver from the SDS party, and then the Social Democrats, with Borut Pahor coming to power, abolished it.

So much for the harmful laws of Janša’s governments: March 8th Institute, with the stolen name of the campaign, filed a law that was adopted years ago by Janša’s government and was abolished by the SD party government

Media counterpoint

All in all, it is an effort to put an end to the rape affair as soon as possible, which is more than obviously harming them. The dominant media also take part in this. They published a kind of PR announcement on the 24ur portal, which completely uncritically covers today’s media campaign. In the meantime, the Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko also came forward, saying at a press conference that she does not know Dušan Smodej.

Apparently, no one knows Dušan Smodej.
