Hojs: Vesel is a completely inappropriate candidate for commissioner

By: Nova24tv.si

Gibanje Svoboda (GS) party has finally revealed the names they will be competing with for the votes of voters in the upcoming European elections. The list leader will be Dr Aleksander Merlo, the director of the Postojna maternity hospital, while their candidate for commissioner will be former President of the Court of Audit, Tomaž Vesel, who is now employed within Odlazek’s media octopus.

There was also a recent debate about the candidates of the GS party between the leader of the parliamentary group of GS, Borut Sajovic, and the vice president of the SDS and candidate for European Parliament, Aleš Hojs.

According to former Interior Minister Hojs, Vesel is a completely unsuitable candidate for European Commissioner. “Whether Mr. Vesel is a suitable candidate for European Commissioner, I think every citizen can answer for themselves. A person who has carried out his function at the Court of Audit in a markedly biased manner. A person who, in addition to serving at the Court of Audit, earned tens of thousands of euros at UEFA without even finding out if he was allowed to. Incidentally, even the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption (CPC) did not find anything. I think the answer is more than clear. A completely unsuitable person for commissioner,” Hojs said.

Golob received three rejections

Hojs also questioned the political potential of the GS party in the show, which apparently faced significant difficulties in filling candidate positions. Urška Klakočar Zupančič and Marta Kos, who are estranged from the party, reportedly declined candidacy, and at the last moment, it became clear that Matej Grošelj would not run for parliament again, allegedly because the party placed him at the bottom of the list.

“Not to mention Mojca Šetinc Pašek and all those who have already left the party. It is more than obvious that this party no longer has a pool of candidates,” said the candidate for European Parliament.

“Apparently, despite a convincing victory in the elections, the largest coalition party no longer has enough personnel to fill the European list fully and appropriately. As their former member, or former LDS member, said, this is a third-rate party of the former LDS, namely the Gibanje Svoboda,” Hojs said.

Imposed Commissioners

Hojs also reminded in the show that the SDS party had proposed changing the legislation in the past so that the party achieving the best result in European elections would also propose a commissioner. “Today we have a problem in the European Union, which I call imposed commissioners. Because regardless of who wins the European elections, the commissioners will be appointed by the current governments. So, in Slovenia, the Gibanje Svoboda, which is currently far below ten percent, will eventually appoint a commissioner. This is completely incredible for a country,” Hojs said.

Hojs: It is natural to listen to the people

Hojs also spoke about the government’s decision to establish asylum centres or migrant centres in Središče ob Dravi and Obrežje (Brežice Municipality). Remember, the government did not consult with representatives of the residents of the mentioned municipalities before making the controversial decision. As a result, angry residents of the municipalities also expressed their disagreement with the government’s intention at several protests. Hojs believes that the government should have consulted with the residents, and in response to the accusation that they are accumulating political points in this way, he said: “I do not understand this question. Why would we even accumulate political points when it was about listening to what people want. It is more than obvious that people in Središče ob Dravi, nor in Brežice, and across Slovenia, do not want these migrant centres.” Hojs is convinced that the government has completely missed the direction. It should have acted like the previous government, which stopped illegal migrations.
