Golob’s candidate for Finance Minister has open lawsuits over finances

By Sara Bertoncelj (Nova24tv)

Požareport reports that the candidate for Finance Minister is being tried for finances, explaining that Igor Stebernak could not become the head of the bank’s management board in Serbia due to these open court proceedings. However, it seems that in Slovenia this does not prevent him from becoming the Minister of Finance in the Republic of Slovenia. Who knows, maybe in our country – at least under certain governments – this is even an additional point for a certain position where illegal behaviour can of course continue.

The latest candidate for Finance Minister in the new government of Robert Golob is Igor Stebernak, a former member of Petrol’s management board and a long-time senior employee of various banks and insurance companies. Today, Požareport reminded of the fact that Stebernak is being tried at the District Court in Ljubljana, on suspicion of illegal conduct. On April 22nd, last year, the state-owned company Petrol filed a lawsuit for damages against the entire dismissed Petrol management, i.e., against Tomaž Berločnik, Rok Vodnik, and Stebernak, requiring, inter alia, compensation for just over 8 million in damages.

“Based on the analysis of experts, we found that the assumptions of liability are met in the acquisition and recapitalisation of mBills and several smaller companies. It is estimated that the damage amounted to about eight million euros, for which the management is jointly and severally liable. We have already filed a lawsuit,” said Nada Drobne Popovič, summed up by Finance magazine a year ago. In addition to the establishment and recapitalisation of Mbills and Abciti, the construction of some service stations in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina is also expected.

Gibanje Svoboda, SD, and Levica parties have started coalition negotiations in the National Assembly

Today, the first official meeting of the parties Svoboda, SD, and Levica is taking place in the National Assembly – the names of the candidates for Ministers are to be put on the table. According to the MMC, former director general of the police Tatjana Bobnar is mentioned among the names who could occupy more prominent positions as a candidate for Interior Minister. From the ranks of the SD party, Tanja Fajon is most likely to become Foreign Minister, and Dominika Švarc Pipan is expected to run for Justice Minister. Miran M. Cvikl is to take over the leadership of the Ministry of the Economy, and Andreja Katič to take over the Ministry of Defence. Emilija Stojmenova Duh is also mentioned from the SD party.

The Levica party will nominate Luka Mesec for Minister (Labour, Family and Social Affairs), and Nataša Sukič and Matej Tašner Vatovec are also mentioned as possible candidates. Although their parties did not enter parliament, Alenka Bratušek and Marjan Šarec – Golob’s party colleague from the time of Positive Slovenia – are also mentioned. It will also be interesting to see for which position they will propose Marta Kos, who was initially expected to be the Foreign Minister. Urška Klakočar Zupančič is supposed to take the position of the President of the National Assembly, which raises some concerns – especially if the rumours that she and Golob are in a romantic relationship are true.
