According to political scientist Dr Miro Haček, the biggest loser of yesterday’s elections is the current ruling coalition – both of its candidates are among the losers, and considering the engagement of Prime Minister Robert Golob, who in the last week also spoke against the candidacy of Nataša Pirc Musar and her influential supporters, he is the biggest loser. Golob is also clearly aware of this and reacts in the same way to every defeat: offended, aggressive, and authoritarian. “We will certainly not allow the SDS candidate to enter the presidential palace,” were the Prime Minister’s words, which in no way belong to a democratic time and place, but they certainly show his true face, which he puts on display with every defeat.
In sunday’s elections for the president of the republic, Anže Logar fared best, as expected – he received just under 34 percent of the vote, while Nataša Pirc Musar received 26.87 percent of the vote. Milan Brglez, the candidate of Gibanje Svoboda and the SD party, came in third place with just over 15 percent. Since Brglez did not qualify for the second round, Gibanje Svoboda announced that they would support Pirc Musar in the second round. Prime Minister Robert Golob said at the results that every election is a celebration of democracy and that in the end the voters decide. “We will know the loser in the second round. And I already know today who the loser in the second round will be,” announced Golob.
“We will certainly not allow the SDS candidate to enter the presidential palace. Because this would be something that would return Slovenia to the dark times of the last two years, and certainly no one wants that,” said Golob, almost in the same breath, who was clearly not happy with the voters’ decision. “What about the will of the people? What about the constitution,” asked expert in the field of international law Dr Miha Pogačnik. “I cannot shake the feeling that Golob & Co. think that the presidential election is a proportional electoral system. So, that the president is elected in parts. He is not. And there are two candidates in the 2nd round that they did not even want, let alone support. Everything else is empty wording,” commented the host of the Faktor show, Aljuš Pertinač.
“My vote definitely goes to Logar in the second round. Precisely because of such statements,” is just one of many comments from voters who were convinced by Golob’s statement that they will vote differently in the second round. Some were even harsher with their comments: “This guy has serious psychological problems… when things do not go his way, he becomes a real offended psychopath…” Many also believe that dark Slovenia is coming this winter – not because of Logar’s possible victory, but because of Golob’s energy policy. Dr Žiga Turk pointed out that this time the new faces practically repeated Golob’s result in April – he believes that after just a few months it became clear that Golob is a temporary solution.
Pirc Musar will have a bigger problem than they think
“The problem will be much bigger than they think now. The key value is again ‘no Janša’, remember what happened two years ago. But Janša is not a candidate, the candidate is Logar, a persona. Not Logar-Janša-SDS. If they have not noticed this until now and will not continue to do so, then they will have big problems and will help elect Logar. Due to their own political incompetence,” commented political scientist Dr Igor Lukšič on the statement of Golob and Pirc Musar in the show Slovenija izbira on Planet TV.
Before the elections, Golob declared that the only real candidate was Milan Brglez, which was also pointed out by Pirc Musar, who found Golob’s statement anything but democratic. Well, Golob obviously thinks that voters have an extremely bad memory – yesterday, among other things, he asserted that they did not choose one candidate and push him forward and impose him on people. “Participation in the 1st round of elections is important so that our candidate also gets the trust that we got on April 24th. If we are passive, there will be an opportunity for the dark forces to return with an independent candidate – behind whom we know who stands,” was the statement of the Prime Minister shortly before the elections – in case he may have forgotten it – and Gibanje Svoboda added to these words also the prompt: “Choose the right (first) one” on Twitter.
