“During 23 years of politics, I have learned many things, including the fact that when one door closes, another one opens. Today we are at the beginning of something big,” Anže Logar pointed out in the media centre.
Anže Logar, who failed to convince the majority of voters in the second round of the presidential elections, congratulated the first female president of the republic, Nataša Pirc Musar, in a statement in the media centre. In a very statesmanlike address, Logar expressed his wish that she would act as a unifier and that she would be the president of all. “Slovenia needs this now more than ever before,” he said.
Logar dedicated most of his statement to his opponent in the second round of the presidential election. According to his assessment, Pirc Musar worked hard during the election campaign, which was not easy. “They already wrote her off during the campaign, but she persisted, just like me, she did not give up and she won today,” he said. They have different views, but he believes she heard his key message about collaboration and expecting to be everyone’s president. He wants Pirc Musar to act as a connector. “It is in the interest of all of us to have a good president,” he emphasised.
Pirc Musar must be the president of all
In his opinion, Pirc Musar will be a good president if she listens to everyone. “Then she will have our support in bridging differences, those differences that take the wind out of our sails. There are and will be differences between us, but this should not be an obstacle to not being united in finding common solutions. Therefore, I urge all those who voted for me to also congratulate the first female Slovenian president,” he said.
At the same time, he thanked all the voters who voted for him today. “More than 350,000 voters voted for us. There has not been so much positivism in Slovenian politics for a long time. A large crowd of us announced loud and clear that cooperation is the only right way for our future, this is a great capital for the future,” he assessed. He also thanked his family and team. “We were all enthusiastic. We believed and still believe in the idea of cooperation. We broke through with the idea, but not with the victory,” he said.
Will Logar channel political capital into a new political story?
However, Logar pointed out something else important.
