It seems that the “depoliticised” leadership of RTV Slovenia will first target those segments of RTV that were created during the previous leadership of RTVS. Apparently, the news editorial team of the second programme of TVS is also involved.
The editorial team of the mentioned programme responded to this intention with a public statement. As they communicated, Zvezdan Martič and the team plan to abolish the daily news programmes Panorama and Magnet, as well as some other shows, a total of seven.
“We inform you that we, in the editorial office, oppose the cancellations and announcements of dismissal of our freelance associates. While the management of RTV Slovenia, with the new programme production plan 2024, plans to employ new freelance associates, we believe that there are no justified reasons for our freelance associates to be left without contracts after January 1st, 2024. We warn that our associates remain in uncertainty without any information. They do not know if they will really lose their jobs, they do not know if their contracts will be extended, and their families are also in uncertainty,” wrote the members of the mentioned editorial team.
They also added that they oppose the radical reduction of the sports and cultural programme, expressing support for their colleagues. “We agree with their warnings that TV Slovenia is the largest cultural institution in the country, and as such, we are obliged to provide viewers with cancelled content, not just accept the lowering of standards of Slovenian public television. The proposed changes mean damage not only to public television but to the entire Slovenian social space. Therefore, we appeal to the management of Television Slovenia to maintain news programmes on TV SLO2, cultural and sports programmes, and to give up the dismissal of freelance associates who participate in the production of shows. We call on the RTV management and journalist unions to urge the government to provide the necessary financial resources for the normal operation of RTV Slovenia.”
As it is known, Andreja Gregorič also recently left the editorial team.
