The number of registered unemployed continues to steadily decline. Data from the Employment Office show that 53,860 unemployed persons were registered at the end of June, which is 3.6 percent less than in May, and thus 24.2 percent fewer unemployed than in June last year. It also reached a new lowest level since 1990.
That the government of Janez Janša worked more than perfectly and that the results of its work are long-lasting is proven by the fact that the unemployment rate continues to fall. At the end of June, there were 1,994 registered unemployed persons less than in May, and compared to last June, unemployment was lower by 17,234 persons.
In the first six months of this year, a total of 60,158 unemployed persons were registered at the institution on average, which is 26 percent less than in the comparable period of 2021. There were 3,949 newly registered unemployed persons in June, which is two percent more than in May and 11.8 percent more than last June. Among the new applicants were 353 first-time job seekers, 1,856 of them applied to the institution due to the expiration of fixed-term employment, 53 due to bankruptcy, and 638 were redundant workers.
Compared to May, fewer first-time jobseekers applied to the institute, but the number of applications by unemployed persons due to the end of fixed-term employment increased, and the number of redundant workers and bankrupts was also higher. Fewer unemployed people became self-employed than in May, but among those who found employment, the most were secretaries, workers for simple jobs in manufacturing activities, salespeople, cleaners, servers and domestic helpers in offices, hotels and other institutions, and storekeepers.
In June, compared to May, unemployment, which fell by 3.6 percent at the national level, decreased in all regional units of the institute. The smallest decrease in unemployment was in the institution’s regional unit in Nova Gorica, followed by the units in Novo Mesto, Kranj, Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Velenje, and Trbovlje. On an annual basis, the largest decline continues to be recorded in the regional units of Kranj, Koper, and Nova Gorica. In the last year, unemployment decreased the least in Novo mesto, Velenje, and Trbovlje.
According to the latest data from the National Statistical Office for April 2022, there were 918,302 employed persons in the country, which is 0.3 percent more than in March and 2.8 percent more than April last year.
