Abroad, surprised by some presidential candidates

By: Tanja Brkić / Nova24tv.si

It was not enough that Slovenia became the target of ridicule from the foreign media because of Golob’s statement about pandemic advice, now we are again on the world media’s wallpaper because of the leftists, this time because of the “strange choice” of presidential candidates or “local Che Guevaras” who will participate in the local elections.

“There are presidential elections in Slovenia in two weeks. The current ruling coalition recently ran its parliament on the basis of an anti-Ukrainian campaign, and now they have nominated two strange characters for president,” wrote Visegrad’s Twitter profile, which is the main portal for collecting news, politics, current events, history, and culture from the Middle and Eastern Europe. In their note, they added a question addressed to Milan Brglez & Miha Kordiš, “why would you support a bloody ideology”, as in the photos they proudly pose with the “Che Guevarra”, a famous murderer, T-shirt.

Just when one would have thought that in a modern democratic society we would move more and more in this direction, it seems that with the new government coming to power, Slovenia has taken a big step back. In the presidential race, which is already in full swing, we would expect candidates who will think in step with the times, but we found ourselves on the other, “socialist” side, which aroused disgust not only here, but also abroad. The focus on the “strange choice” of candidates for the local and presidential elections is precisely on two extremely radical candidates, Miha Kordiš and Milan Brglez, which was also pointed out by the Visegrad profile on Twitter, which wrote: “In two weeks there are presidential elections in Slovenia. The current ruling coalition recently ran its parliament on the basis of an anti-Ukraine campaign, and now they have nominated two strange characters for president. Milan Brglez and Miha Kordiš, why would you support a bloody ideology?”, with the latter referring to their photos with a T-shirt dedicated to the murderer Che Guevara.

In terms of radicalism, MP Kordiš certainly stands out the most. In the past, he became famous by supporting totalitarian symbols and controversial figures from the past who massively violated human rights and killed millions of people. His biggest enemy are businessmen, about whom he has repeatedly uttered extremely insulting and indecent words. Kordiš is a master of hate speech and a supporter of unconstitutional ideas that should have no place in a democratic society. The same question is reasonably posed to Brglez as a university professor at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, where he lectures on world politics and European human rights protection, among other things. In any case, the very thought that a man who idealises a murderer would lead a democratic country is very disturbing. “A sensation in Slovenia. Unbelievable – absurd – death to democracy. In Slovenia, an extremely radical anti-Semitic communist Milan Brglez SD is running for president,” a Twitter user who lives in Germany also commented on Brglez’s candidacy.

Prime Minister Robert Golob’s statement about “natural remedies against covid-19” has crossed Slovenian borders and resonates in foreign media as well.

Recently, Prime Minister Robert Golob himself took care of mocking Slovenian publicity, who also filled foreign headlines with his statement about “pandemic advice”. “We have a wave that is not that big. Wave in the middle of summer. That is just good. Why? We have two natural remedies against covid-19: they are vitamin D and the sun and salty sea water. It is great that the wave is now because we can all go to the sea and heal there. I am not joking, this is pure truth,” Prime Minister Robert Golob said on the 24ur Zvečer programme regarding the new wave of the epidemic in Slovenia.

His statement was not only circulated throughout Slovenia, but also beyond its borders. Especially in the countries of the former Yugoslavia.

That is why he has to pay for PR articles abroad

It is no wonder that the Prime Minister, due to such and other slips on home soil, thanks to his incompetence in the position of Prime Minister, with which he is losing the support of his voters, which he won on the basis of deception and empty promises, has to use another way to increase his popularity – there, where they do not know him, because that is where he can. And there is no easier way to achieve this than with paid PR in foreign left-wing media, especially now that it is being taken care of by his new public relations representative from Gibanje Svoboda, who is quite well acquainted with the policy of “good news for a good price”? Let’s recall the article published by the Foreign Policy media, which was more than obviously a carefully executed PR move used by Golob. The matter was unbelievable, especially when the author of the article, who is by the way Caroline de Gruyter, a left-wing columnist at Foreign Policy and a correspondent for the left-liberal media NRC Handelsblad, not only praised Golob at length, but also mentioned him as the founder of the company GEN-I, which is not true. Let us remind you that Golob joined GEN-I in the service of Igor Bavčar when he joined his loss-making private company. It was a pure LDS energy project. However, there is obviously no other way, after all this we can expect another “foreign fairy tale” about the current Prime Minister in the near future, paid for, of course.
