Katja Fain secured bronze for Slovenia in the women’s 200 metre freestyle at the European Short Course Swimming Championship in Kazan, Russia.
The 20-year-old clocked 1:53.88 minutes to set a new national record, with a 0.3 gap to Czech Barbora Seemanova in second and an 1.13 lag behind the winner Marrit Steenbergen of the Netherlands. Slovenia’s success was rounded off by Janja Šegel in fourth. Slovenia’s last medal at such a major competition was six years ago.
