Zver filed an official complaint against Vice President of the European Commission Věra Jourová with the European Ombudsman

By: G. B.

MEP Dr Milan Zver filed an official complaint with the European Ombudsman against the European Commission. After nine months of evasion, delay, and fabrication, the Commission has still not provided access to documents related to Vice President Vera Jourova’s mission in Slovenia in March 2023. Jourova is responsible for transparency within the European Commission.

Dr Milan Zver expressed concerns that the Commission is intentionally trying to postpone the release of these documents until the end of Vice President Jourova’s mandate, avoiding accountability for her actions.

He requests the European Ombudsman to:

  • Determine whether the European Commission violated his right to access information by not providing the requested documents.
  • Instruct the European Commission to publish the entire report on the mission in Slovenia, including all other internal documents he requested, along with the brief prepared by the Commissioner’s Cabinet for the visit to Slovenia.
  • Conclude that the European Commission abused its powers by delaying its response to his request.
  • Recommend that the European Commission takes measures to improve transparency and public communication.
