SDS MP Žan Mahnič announced via the X network that he will file a criminal complaint against the party Gibanje Svoboda, which today reported Mahnič to the prosecution for incitement to armament, and against Prime Minister Robert Golob. He believes that Svoboda’s action today is proof that it is a totalitarian party, whose main goal is to persecute the opposition and other citizens.

As he also announced in response via the X network, he will file a criminal complaint against the “Gibanje Svoboda and its leader” by the end of the week. He attributed fascist methods to the Gibanje Svoboda.

Today, the Gibanje Svoboda party reported SDS MP Žan Mahnič to the competent prosecutor’s office on suspicion of the criminal offense of public incitement of hatred, violence, or intolerance. According to Svoboda, Mahnič’s call for armament crosses the line of acceptable political expression, and they therefore propose that the prosecution initiate criminal proceedings against Mahnič.

Last week, during a discussion on X about a protest in Šentjernej, where a crowd demanded measures to address Roma issues, Mahnič called on people to join shooting clubs, claiming that this would allow citizens to legally possess weapons at home. He also announced that SDS will ensure through legislative changes that excessive self-defence will no longer exist. Mahnič’s call sparked sharp reactions within the coalition, which believes that such responses increase the risk of violence. The call was also strongly condemned by the President of the Republic, Nataša Pirc Musar, the Peace Institute, and the Shooting Association of Slovenia.
