On 24 and 25 June, political and security consultations between Slovenia and the USA were held at the State Department in Washington. They were conducted by Jernej Müller, Director-General of the Directorate for Common Foreign and Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Maureen Cormack, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.
Representatives of foreign and defence ministries from both countries take part in this established mechanism. Security aspects were addressed by Uroš Zorko, Director-General at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia, and Spencer Boyer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy.
They discussed the global security environment with the focus on transatlantic opportunities, especially during the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Western Balkans, cooperation with NATO and cooperation in international missions and operations, bilateral security and defence cooperation, as well as new and hybrid threats, including cybersecurity and climate change.
On the sidelines of the consultations, Director-General Müller held separate bilateral meetings with Victoria Nuland, Under Secretary for Political Affairs, and other high representatives of the State Department for the European Union, the Western Balkans, Russia, China and the Indo-Pacific region, the Middle East and North Africa.
