The Executive Committee of the SDS has prepared a proposal for the candidate list for the European elections. They propose the current MEP Romana Tomc as the list leader, followed by MEP Milan Zver, SDS Vice President Aleš Hojs, and MPs Franc Breznik and Branko Grims, among others. The candidate list still needs to be approved by the party council.
Some media outlets reported unofficial information that Milan Zver had been removed from the candidate list. However, it turned out that this was not true.
In addition to the previously mentioned candidates, the SDS Executive Committee proposes former Mayor of Maribor and current President of the Maribor SDS branch Franc Kangler, former State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Alenka Forte, SDS youth wing member Karin Planinšek, and the International Secretary of the Slovenian Democratic Youth Zala Tomašič. Slovenia will have nine MEPs in the next parliamentary term.
MEP Romana Tomc thanked the party on social media X for the trust and opportunity, expressing a sense of responsibility as the list leader. “As the leader of the list, I accept them with great responsibility. We combine knowledge, experience, and wisdom with youthful energy, enthusiasm, and new ideas,” she wrote. She is convinced that the proposed candidates are a winning team for the June European elections. The proposed candidate list is not final and awaits confirmation at the party council meeting, where, in accordance with the statute, candidates are determined and the list for the European Parliament is approved. No major changes are expected, especially at the top of the list.
