The former Director General of Police, Senad Jušić, retired on Tuesday after more than 34 years of service in the police, the General Police Directorate confirmed to STA.

Let us recall: this is the same former Director General of Police who was appointed illegally and only stepped down after receiving an order to do so from Milan Kučan. Last week, the Specialised State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) filed a request for a judicial investigation against Jušić, who had submitted his resignation in January. The SDT’s request follows a criminal complaint filed at the end of January by prosecutor Mateja Gončin with the SDT’s special department. Jušić is accused of attempted abuse of official position.

Senad Jušić submitted his resignation from the position of police chief in January, a post he had held since September 2023. He gave no reason for his resignation, although he had previously faced several accusations, including irregularities in his appointment. The Administrative Court ruled that the decision of the special selection commission of the Civil Service Council, regarding whether Jušić met the criteria for appointment, was unlawful. The person directly responsible for this irregularity is the Minister of the Interior, Boštjan Poklukar, who described Jušić at the time of appointment as an experienced police professional. There were also public allegations of irregularities in the Centre for Security and Protection. After his resignation, Jušić served for some time as an advisor in the office of the Director General of Police at the Koper Police Directorate.

It seems the game is over, as it appears. Who is Jušić running from?
