At the outset, Minister Logar expressed solidarity and sympathy over the Covid-19 victims in the US.

The Slovenian Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State called for further strengthening of friendly ties between the two allies and stressed the importance of close transatlantic partnership in dealing with the current pandemic. They addressed a number of topical international issues.

Foreign Minister Logar and Secretary of State Pompeo called for the further strengthening of political and economic ties between the two countries and the continued deepening of security and defence cooperation, both bilaterally and within the North Atlantic Alliance. Minister Logar presented Slovenia’s active role within NATO and pointed out Slovenia’s readiness to contribute to a fair division of burdens.

They discussed the current situation and the endeavours of the two countries in curbing the pandemic, underlining the importance of a coordinated and effective international response and of the leading role that the transatlantic community should play in providing the necessary medical equipment.

Special attention was devoted to relaunching the global economy and to the difficulties arising from the ever-increasing spread of disinformation.

The Slovenian Foreign Minister welcomed the increased engagement of the US in Central Europe, which is also reflected in the active support to the Three Seas Initiative, the summit of which Slovenia hosted in 2019. Minister Logar and Secretary of State Pompeo also touched upon the Transatlantic Energy Cooperation Partnership (P-TEC). Minister Logar gave an overview of the preparations for Slovenia’s presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2021 and called for maintaining close and constructive relations between the European Union and the United States.

The Slovenian Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State agreed to meet as soon as the circumstances permit.
