After Tanja Fajon visited Ukraine and thereby did something that she criticised former Prime Minister Janez Janša as unnecessary and pretentious, she literally lied in an interview with the Ukrainian portal Evropska Pravda. When a journalist asked her where the Slovenian aid shipment got stuck, she blamed the government of Janez Janša, saying that the new government did not get anything like that on the table.

The appearance of the Slovenian Foreign Minister on the Ukrainian portal Evropska Pravda can be summed up in the words deception and lies. The journalist first asked her if anything has changed in Slovenia’s attitude towards the Ukrainian war in the light of the new government, as they had particularly good relations with the previous government. Fajon denied the change in attitudes: “It is true, we have a new government, but we have not changed our attitude towards the war in Ukraine. In the past we have donated a lot of humanitarian and military goods, now we are investigating what else you need because we are preparing a new aid package for Ukraine…”

She continued with clichés about support, about the fact that Ukraine is fighting for the freedom of all of Europe, and about the fact that Slovenia supports Ukraine’s entry into NATO. The journalist does not give in and asks her to stay focused on a certain topic.

“You say that you will research what we need, but you know what we need,” said the journalist and continued: “Your promise got stuck somewhere. Where did it get stuck?”

“I have to correct you. We do have a new government, but we did not get anything on the table from the old government. We have a decision from the past about the delivery of military vehicles, and we suffer with you and admire your courage,” Fajon tried to get out of the dilemma.

With these words, the Foreign Minister proved that she is really no stranger to lies. How will she be able to look Slovenes and Ukrainians in the eye? The government of Janez Janša was on the threshold of donating T72/M84 tanks to Ukraine and agreeing with Germany that Slovenia would receive SNOW leopard M26 j tanks in return. The USA was also involved in the deal, as the then Prime Minister Janša spoke about it with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

At the same time, we cannot help mentioning once again the behaviour of Tanja Fajon and the entire political left during Janša’s visit to Kyiv. She uncritically joined the pogrom against the Prime Minister at the time and said about the visit: “that it leads to an escalation of the war, which no one wants” and added, “going to the war zone is a brave thing to do, but this courage is also a risk for the Ukrainian army, who has to protect high-ranking statesmen who go to a dangerous area, instead of defending their innocent civilians.”
