Survey: SDS has been rising for the third consecutive week, delays in forming a new coalition benefit LMŠ

After the resignation of Prime minister Marjan Šarec, SDS has been climbing the rankings for the third week in a row, with LMŠ returning to the same level as their first week, to a large extent, at the expense of Levica and even more so SD, whose support has dropped significantly. The same applies to SNS. DeSUS remains stable, but the delays in the negotiations for the composition of the new coalition and the public reverberations of inner-party developments did not benefit the SMC and partly the N.Si, whose MEP’s public appearances caused some skepticism concerning the unity of the party. Both parties have lost some of the support they gained in the second week after the government’s resignation. SMC and SLS are currently on the threshold of entering the National Assembly, while SAB has no serious chances, with its 1% support.

The proportion of those who would rather have early elections than a new coalition is falling week after week, but they are still the majority. However, the share of those fully resolved to participate in early elections is strengthening. Support for the president of SDS as a possible new Prime Minister is strengthening for the third consecutive week, and at the same time, falling for the second in the rankings, Marjan Šarec. There is also a noticeable increase in support for SMC’s President Zdravko Počivalšek.

SDS party with the highest support
According to the data of the opinion poll conducted for Nova24TV by the Parsifal SC, if the elections were held this Sunday, the majority of the voters would have given their support to the SDS party (22.4 %), followed by LMŠ (16.2 %), Levica (5.4 %), SD (5.3 %), DeSUS (4.1 %) and NSi (3.6 %). 32.5 % of the voters remain undecided. Support for the SDS has increased even more than in the previous measurement (from 31.4 % to 33.2 %) and is well ahead of the LMŠ, whose support has also increased somewhat, based on the reasons stated above. SD’s, NSi’s, SNS’s and, to some extent, SMC’s support decreased.

The public believes that Janez Janša would be the most suitable future Prime Minister
Participants were also asked who they thought would be the most appropriate candidate to form the next government. Most of the respondents (24.7 %) believe that the most suitable candidate for the next Prime Minister is Janez Janša, followed by Marjan Šarec, who is already six percentage points behind. It is clear that the proportion of those who believe that Janša is the most appropriate future Prime Minister is increasing week by week. On February 5th, it was 20,9 percent, and on February 20th, it has already gone up to 24,7 percent. The proportion of those who think that the most appropriate Prime Minister would be Šarec has dropped. The percentage of those who believe that the most appropriate future Prime Minister would be SMC’s President Zdravko Počivalšek has increased sharply, from 1.4 percent on February 5th,  up to 5.6 % on February 20th.

The number of those who believe it would be more appropriate to form a new government is also increasing. On February 5th, 36 percent of the participants believed this is the best option, but on February 20th, this number has gone up to 40.2 percent. The proportion of those who believe that early elections would be more appropriate, is declining and is currently only slightly higher than 50 percent.

According to the survey, the proportion of those who will definitely participate in the next parliamentary elections is 44.6 percent; and the proportion of those who definitely won’t participate in the next election has gone up to 16.9 percent.
