By: UKOM

Yesterday, State Secretary Peter Geršak attended the International Investor’s Conference in Bled, organised by the PanSlovenian Shareholder’s Association in cooperation with Better Finance. The State Secretary gave an opening address, and then took part in a round table discussion entitled Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity in Business.

In the opening address, the State Secretary said that one of the European Union and Slovenia’s main tasks as the member state holding the presidency in a time of pandemic, is to remain economically strong in order to retain old investors and attract new ones. He drew attention to the financial mechanisms that have been allocated to the digital and green transformation of both public administrations and society as a whole in the coming years. He added that the novel coronavirus and the associated pandemic are some kind of catalysts that have lead us to reflect on the coexistence of man and nature, on the functioning and problems of global supply chains, and on the recovery and upgrading of the healthcare systems and high‑tech companies.

At the end of his opening address, the State Secretary summarised the words of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who said, “There are many places in the world where you can earn a good living and do great business. However, when it comes to living in peace and freedom, there is no better place than Europe.”

At the round‑table discussion, the State Secretary and Dr Dušan Caf, Director of the Digitas Institute, spoke about the acceleration of digitalisation, which is opening up many new business and other opportunities. However, it was pointed out that it is vital that we remain aware of current threats such as cyberattacks and to respond appropriately.
