Prime Minister Janez Janša addressed a letter to President Borut Pahor proposing that a meeting with all leaders of parliamentary parties as well as with heads of deputy groups, Ministry of Health and advisory group is convened as soon as possible.

Based on the advisory group’s position, the Ministry of Health has developed additional proposals for containing the third wave of the coronavirus epidemic, which has begun across most of Europe, including Slovenia.

Prime Minister Janez Janša has stressed that, considering the alarmingly rapid increase in infections and COVID-19 patients, the Government is compelled to consider and adopt measures by the end of this week at the latest. In view of the agreement reached at the last meeting of experts and parliamentary politicians, Prime Minister Janša has requested that President Borut Pahor convene, as soon as possible, a follow-up meeting at which the Ministry of Health, in the presence of the advisory group, will present its proposals to the leaders and heads of deputy groups of parliamentary parties before the proposals are considered by the Government at its session.

Prime Minister Janša also proposed that the meeting be held on Friday evening or on Saturday or Sunday, stressing that the Government must decide on the proposals or measures for containing the third wave of the epidemic by Sunday evening at the latest.

He recalled that, at the first meeting, opposition representatives stressed, in particular, that they would like to be informed in more detail of the measures before their adoption. By requesting that President Pahor convene said meeting, the Government has complied with the opposition’s requests.

Prime Minister Janša also proposed to President Pahor that the meeting should be public so that everyone could be informed of the proposals and the dilemmas we face and need to address.
