Prime Minister Janez Janša meets Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas

By:UKOM

Prime Minister Janez Janša yesterday met with the Vice-President of the European Commission and the Commissioner for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas. Mr Janša and Mr Schinas continued the discussion they started during the visit of the Slovenian Prime Minister to Athens on 10 May 2021.

They focused on the key priorities of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Commissioner first thanked Slovenia for having listed the European way of life as one of the priorities of its EU Council Presidency.

One of the key topics of the Slovenian Presidency will also be the negotiations on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum. The Slovenian Prime Minister and the Vice-President of the European Commission also agreed on the importance of the new Schengen Strategy and of enlarging the Schengen Area.

They also discussed the issue of cyber security, which is another of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency’s key priorities, and talked about the situation of the Covid-19 epidemic in the European Union, which is on a downward trend and which, taking into consideration the encouraging increase in vaccination rates in the EU Member States, provides a realistic basis for more optimistic expectations.
