During the Stevanović’s rally, which was illegal, Miroslav Žaberl, a friend of Milan Kučan and Gregor Golobič, a sympathiser of the Red Forum21 and an assistant professor at the Faculty of Security Sciences in Maribor, was spotted on the Republic Square.

The on-duty critic of the center-right government, especially of the Interior Minister Aleš Hojs, found himself in a very awkward position – he came to an illegal rally, even though he is an “expert” on security issues. Also, because more than a decade ago, Žaberl was the director general of the directorate for police and other security tasks at the Ministry of the Interior (MNZ), he should know that you do not go to illegal (unreported) rallies, especially if you are there when the police had already disbanded the rally.

From the picture sent to us by our reader, it is clear that he was not there by chance. It is more likely that he was waiting for his mentor – Milan Kučan.

Among other things, Žaberl was a lecturer at an event organised by the Rotary club Slovenia in Velenje. It reads: “Police officers ensure the safety of citizens. In order to ensure security, they may also interfere with human rights in certain cases. They can stop us on the road, demand documents, or even conduct an investigation. They can also resort to coercive means. They have statutory powers for such interventions, which they must exercise in accordance with procedural provisions.”

That Žaberl is also politically active was proved in May this year, when he commented on the events in the police for Dnevnik and pointed a finger at the government. He accused it of passing repressive decrees. “Police chiefs uncritically followed the demands of a policy that required the police to be consistent (in sanctioning, fn. a.). In this way, the policy demand was passed down. Unfortunately, due to this the police have lost a large part of their capital or reputation, which they have enjoyed so far in public,” he said at the time.

Months ago, Žan Mahnič, State Secretary for National Security, wrote this about Žaberl on a social network (below):

Miroslav Žaberl would play at served years of politician. He was fired from @strankaSD because they have Jevšek and Selan, so he is looking for his place at @StrankaLMS. He should rather go fishing, maybe that will go better than commenting on the work of Minister @aleshojs.
