On Thursday, 17 December, in the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic of Slovenia and Commander-in-Chief of the Slovenian Armed Forces Borut Pahor promoted Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Robert Glavaš, to the rank of Major General.

The president pointed out that this was a turning point in the career of every soldier, which was well deserved through hard work and good results. He noted that Chief of the General Staff had been a soldier and an officer ever since the beginnings of the Slovenian Armed Forces. As such, he is very well acquainted with all of its strongest points, but also with its weaknesses and shortcomings, which gives him the necessary competencies and at the same time obliges him to lead our armed forces towards the set goals in collaboration with other commanders.

Major General Glavaš expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him, adding that he was putting to the fore the goals towards which he believes the armed forces should be lead. He also stressed that he would wish for a broader social understanding and awareness regarding the resources needed to ensure the national defence – “not at the expense of others, but with a firm awareness that in every society a safe environment is the basis for the realisation of all other values.”

Major General Robert Glavaš was born in 1962. He has been employed in the Slovenian Armed Forces since 1991. During his military career, he has performed various command and staff duties at home, in multinational commands, and in international operations and missions in Kosovo and Afghanistan. In accordance with Article 63 of the Defence Act, Generals and admirals are promoted by the President of the Republic on the proposal of the Minister and upon prior consent of the Government.
